Speaker of Lower House of Parliament Suspends 20 MP’s from Parliamentary sessions

The Speaker of the Lower House of Somali Parliament, Adan Mohamed Nur alias Adan Madobe yesterday issued a directive in which he suspended 20 Members of the parliament from attending the upcoming parliamentary sessions due to security concerns.

The speaker suspended the MP’s based his decision on constitutional laws which further said that he has a special responsibility to implement the parliamentary bylaws, maintain order and ensure the smooth functioning of legislation and administrative affairs.

He has asked the committee for regulations, ethics, immunity and welfare to put forward their suggestions on the actions that could be taken from the 20 MP’s.

He informed Whip Mohamed Abdilahi Hassan Nur to stop the list of MP’s from attending the upcoming parliamentary sessions unless the Committee for regulations, ethics, immunity and welfare issues a decision.

On the other hand, he issued another letter in which he suspended members of the cabinet ministers who are also members of the Lower House of parliament from attending the upcoming parliamentary sessions.

He accused the four members of participating in a physical altercations and called the Whip to suspend from the parliamentary sessions.

He failed to preside over the session which was scheduled to open on last Wednesday after some of the MP’s started to boo and the parliament session descended into chaos.

The MP’s were disappointed with a step that the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament took in which he stripped his parliamentary seat from Abdullahi Hashi Abiib designated HOP120.

After the MP’s returned from the recess, the parliament did not hold the session.
