The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of Southwest State announced on Thursday that all incoming and outgoing flights in airports under the control of Southwest State authorities have been suspended. This decision will be effective on March 18, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice. In a statement released by the ministry, it was confirmed that this measure has been taken to protect the safety and well-being of the people and to maintain law and order in the civil aviation sector, in light of current tensions. Flights operated by the United Nations and AUSSOM will not be affected by the suspension, as they are only permitted to carry out humanitarian, health, or official operations. All airline companies and their crews have been notified to halt their planned and unplanned flights and to stay in touch with relevant agencies to arrange for the transportation of passengers and goods. This decision comes amidst a political rift between Southwest State and the Somali Federal Government, which has resulted in the halting of several flights destined for Biadoa. These flights are only allowed to carry staff or equipment and are not permitted to transport politicians without consent from the relevant agencies. The Ministry has also issued a stern warning to anyone who violates this order, as they will face consequences for their actions.
