The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and the Commander of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, held a meeting to check on the well-being of and offer encouragement to some of the orphaned children of Somali National Army soldiers who lost their lives defending the country.
The officials pledged to the children that their welfare would be regularly monitored and that they would receive appropriate care and support. This meeting takes place amidst emerging concerns and complaints regarding reductions in financial support for the families of soldiers killed in combat, troops disabled in operations, and retired military personnel. Affected families have reported a cut in support payments without receiving sufficient explanation regarding the reason for the change.
The Defense Committee of the House of the People has also summoned the Minister of Defense and the Army Commander to address reports concerning the reduction of allowances for retired soldiers, those disabled in the line of duty, and the families of fallen soldiers, demanding clarification on the legal basis for the decision.
