Reports from Hiiraan region confirmed that Somali National Army (SNA) and Ma’awisley forces on Wednesday have withdrawn from Aboorey settlement where the gov’t troops engaged in a fierce fighting with Al-Shabab militants.
The heavy fighting was underway for the past couple of weeks in the settlement that was vacated by Somali troops.
There were casualties including deaths and injuries from the Somali troops and Al-Shabab fighters that were battling in Aboorey.
Aboorey is a strategic settlement that is under the administration of Buuloburde district in Hiiraan region.
Officers of the local Ma’awisley forces who have spoken to the media told that they have tactically withdrawn from the settlement.
They promised that they will soon return to the settlement.
The Commander of the 163 Brigade of Danab Commandos Osman Afrah was killed with other soldiers in the fighting in Aboorey settlement .
The Somali Military Command has not so far issued a statement regarding the reasons the Somali National Army (SNA) have vacated the settlement.
This is not the first time that the coalition forces have withdrawn from a settlement that they have liberated from Al-Shabab militants.
