The incumbent Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday is due to travel to Baqdad, Iraq’s capital city where he will attend the 34th Arab League Summit which will officially kick-off on May 17, 2025.
The summit will focus on the stability of the region, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the fight against terrorism, and the economic cooperation between the Arab League Countries.
The Foreign Ministers of Arab League Countries have approved the agenda of the summit while a top priority will be given to Palestine, and strengthening the national security of Arab League Countries.
Iraqi Gov’t spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi told that the ministers have submitted crucial suggestions to the Arab League leaders.
Iraq is also proposing plans which focus on the fight against terrorism, drugs, crime and consolidating the security cooperation among Arab Countries.
There is a plan in place which will see the establishment of Arab Development Fund which will take part in the reconstruction and disaster relief.
There are eight points in the agenda of the summit which will include the resolution of conflicts in the region, security cooperation, combating terrorism, climate change and the development of economic cooperation within the Arab League Countries.
The theme of this year’s Summit is “ Dialogue, Unity and Development” and is expected to held debates on the Israeli invasion in Gaza which claimed the lives of 53, 000 civilians.
