Somali Gov’t Dispatches a delegation to Kismayo

The Somali Federal Government dispatched a delegation to Kismayo, the administrative seat of Jubaland, on Monday. The delegation is led by Hon. Mohamoud Ma’alin Abdulle, the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency. Accompanying the delegation is Hon. George Conway, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, and Deputy Special Representative to Somalia. Upon arrival at Kismayo airport, the delegation was greeted by the Jubaland Minister of Humanitarian and Disaster Management, along with the Director General. The objective of the delegation’s visit is to strengthen cooperation between national institutions and World Humanitarian agencies involved in humanitarian affairs. According to a statement issued by Jubaland, the delegation’s mission is to assess the impact of the drought on various districts. Jubaland is currently in conflict with the Somali Federal Government, which is facing a humanitarian crisis due to widespread drought in Jubba and Gedo regions. Other parts of the country, including Southwest State, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and Puntland, are also experiencing the effects of the drought.
