Somali government has released a statement addressing the recent tensions in Southwest State

The Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation of the Somali Federal Government is closely monitoring the renewed tensions in the Southwest State regions. The Ministry is concerned about the creation of insecurity and political obstacles that may affect the region. Therefore, the Somali Federal Government would like to assure the Somali people of the following:

1. The Somali Federal Government commends the people of Southwest State for their efforts in protecting unity and statehood, as well as their participation in the process of revising and completing the constitution and democratization.

2. The Somali Federal Government was not involved in the recent instability in Southwest State regions. It is committed to immediately engaging in a cessation of hostilities and resolving conflicts through dialogue in order to continue the progress made in the fight against terrorism.

3. The Somali Federal Government condemns the decision made by the Presidential Palace in Southwest State to suspend all cooperation with the Somali Federal Government. It also confirms that its agencies will continue to fulfill their constitutional duties for the people living in Southwest State regions.

4. The Somali Federal Government urges Southwest State authorities to continue participating in the reconciliation and democratization process. It also calls on community members, clans, and politicians from the region to remain vigilant against any threats to the security, peace, and well-being of the people living in Southwest State regions.
