Saudi Arabia has lifted a ban on livestock imports from Somalia on temporary basis on Sunday. This was announced by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The objective is to strengthen local markets with imported meat ( livestock) in a bid to ensure food supply.

At least 600 thousand sheep and 100 thousand camels are expected to arrive in the local markets within 30 days.

The Gulf state imposed a ban on Somali livestock following the diagnoses of Rift Valley disease.
