The session of Somalia’s Lower House of Parliament was marred by chaos after Members of Parliament obstructed the Speaker of the House, Adan Mohamed Nur alias Adan Madobe to chair the session.
There was a controversy over the Somali Opposition MP Abdilahi Hashi Abiib who was stripped of his parliamentary seat.
The Speaker of the Lower House issued a directive on the 15th of March, 2025 in which he stripped Abiib from his parliament seat designated HOP120 after he accused of going AWOL which means “Absent without Leave.”
Some of the members of the parliament strongly opposed the step in which Abiib was expelled from the parliament seat.
They said that the move is completely against the bylaws of the Lower House of Parliament.
The MP’s recently said that 100 MP’s have signed a motion against the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament.
The MP’s heckled the parliament to hold its session.
The office of the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament issued a letter on Tuesday in which he returned the seat designated HOP120 back to the Committee for Regulations, Ethics, Immunity and Welfare in order to make suggestions and return to the parliament.
The MP’s issued a press statement in which they denounced the letter, arguing that there was an error within the letter in which the Speaker has not reversed his decision to strip the MP Abiib from the parliament seat.
While a resolution was not reached over the expulsion of MP Abiib from the parliament, the Speaker of the Lower House of parliament tried on Wednesday to preside over the parliament session but the MP’s obstructed him to chair the session.
The Security Forces in the parliament Villa Hargeisa tried to take control of the situation but they did not succeed.
The Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament failed to open the parliamentary session which was marred by booing and heckling.
Finally, the Speaker left from the parliamentary building and the session did not take place.
