Local Ma’awisley forces launched a raid in a settlement that lies in the border between Hiiraan and Shabelle regions where Al-Shabab militants were stationed.
The local defense forces moved from Ceel-Hareeri settlement which is under the administration of Moqokori district in Hiiraan region.
They launched an assault on Al-shabab militants in Hararta settlement which locates between Ceel Hareeri settlement and Adan Yabal district in Middle Shabelle province.
Fierce fighting ensued between Al-shabab militants and local Ma’awisley forces.
The two sides used all kinds of heavy weapons during the armed skirmishes.
They dislodged Al-shabab militants from the settlement.
Local residents told that Ma’awisley forces met strong resistance from Al-Shabab militants but the militant group of Al-Shabab could not withstand the rapid advance of the local Ma’awisley forces.
Officers of local Ma’awsiley forces were quoted as saying that they killed ten Al-shabab militants.
They also confiscated weapons from the militant group of Al-Shabab.
Officers further told that the local Ma’awisley forces are currently in control of the settlement in which they flushed out of Al-shabab militants from the settlement.
Reports say that the situation in the settlement is calm after a fighting that lasted for several hours occurred.
The Local Ma’awisley forces in Hiiraan region on Sunday launched an attack in Tawakal settlement which is under the administration of Adan Yabaal district where Al-Shabab militants were stationed.
They moved from Ceel Hareeri settlement in the outskirts of Moqokori district.
They engaged in one of the fiercest fighting that the two sides engaged in Hirshabelle settlements.
Ma’awisley is a local force which the Somali Federal Gov’t mobilized.
They are from local residents who are knowledgeable the land where the war with Al-Shabab militants is being waged.
