The local defense forces-Ma’awisley yesterday ambushed Al-shabab militants who were dispatched to be reinforcements to the fighting which was underway in the outskirts of Adan Yabaal district in Middle Shabelle province. Al-shabab fighters who departed from Alkawsar settlement was on a mission which was to reinforce Al-Shabab fighters who were badly defeated on the attack the group launched in the outskirts of El-Hareeri which is under Moqokori district in Hiiran region.
The militant group of Al-Shabab who were planning to launch an attack on Somali National Army (SNA) and the local defense forces asked for reinforcements from Al-shabab fighters based in Alkawsar settlement. Alkawsar is among the settlements in Middle Shabelle province which the militant group of Al-Shabab took control in March.
Reports say that Al-Shabab fighters who were trying to reinforce the militant group in the outskirts of Adan Yabaal distric was ambushed by the local defense forces-Ma’awisley. Fighting ensued between Al-Shabab fighters and the local defense forces in the Haud area of Alkawsar settlement.
Al-Shabab fighters who were hiding from the airstrikes preferred to take the road that lies in the Huad area in order to easily reach the outskirts of Adan Yabaal district. This was the area that the militant group of Al-shabab launched the attack from areas nearby El-Hareeri, but they could not break through the defense positions of the local defense forces-Ma’awisley.
Reports say that the local defense forces killed most of Al-Shabab fighters who were reinforcing the militants while others escaped from the area. The local defense forces who ambushed Al-shabab fighters are believed that they left from the outskirts of Moqokori district.
They are the local defense forces who were deployed in the road that leaves Moqokori and which goes to El-Ali Ahmed settlement which is under Adan Yabaal district. The local defense forces-Ma’awsiley has started to operate as mobile Al-Shabab fighters while their soldiers are conducting attacks where Al-Shabab fighters are based.
Ma’awisley forces currently operates actively in the East of Hirshabelle. They trek to long distances and remote areas in order to prevent attacks carried out by Al-Shabab. The local defense forces-Ma’awisley supported the Somali National Army (SNA) that are engaged longstanding war with Al-shabab that is considered as a terrorist group.
