Kenya closes border with Somalia to curb COVID-19 spread

The government of Kenya has closed its border with Somalia over increased import cases of Covid-19 cases.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced the border closure on Saturday saying that the number of Covid-cases into the country from Somalia has increased at an alarming rate.

President Kenyatta said the border closure will affect all human and transport.

The border blockade will take effect from May 16.

Cargo transporting vehicles will be exempt on a condition that all drivers must be screened over Covid-19 fears.

Kenya also announced closure of border with Tanzania.

Kenya said that over 50 cases reported this week were imported from Somalia and Tanzania.

Kenya has reported 49 cases Saturday bringing the to over 800 the national tally.

Somalia has confirmed over 1200 cases of Covid-19 with 53 fatalities.

The president of Kenya Uhuru has also extended the dusk to dawn curfew for 21 days while restrictions of movement into and out of the capital Nairobi and Mombasa remain in place.
