Ethiopian PM Abiy, Egyptian President Hold Talks In Beijing

Addis Ababa, September 2, 2018 – Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed today met President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt in Beijing, China.

The two leaders exchanged views on bilateral, regional and global issues as well as on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Prime Minister Dr Abiy arrived in Beijing, China yesterday to attend the 7th Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). The meeting will be held on 3-4 September.

Ahead of the summit, he has been conducting bilateral meetings with various African leaders and Chinese officials.

Yesterday, he met Rwandan President Paul Kagame to discuss on ways to defend Africa’s interest and exchange views on the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) which will be held in Rwanda next week.

And today, he held talks with Hu Xiaolian, Chairperson of China’s EXIM Bank. Their discussion focused on ways to strengthen cooperation and partnership on foreign direct investment (FDI).

They also agreed to look into restructuring of Ethiopia’s loans. The Chairperson appreciated Ethiopia’s recent economic reforms.
