Canada Gives 10 Million US dollars to Somaliland to fund on food security and child nutrition projects

HARGEISA— Canada has announced availing funds earmarked for carrying out projects in Somaliland. The funds will be allocated for implementing projects on promoting farming production and child nutrition. Togder and Daad Madheedh provinces will be the beneficiaries. The projects will be carried out by UNICEF, WFP and FOA. A ceremony held in making the announcement saw the attendance of planning, environment, animal husbandry, officials representing Canada and senior officials from international organization tasked to undertake the implementation of such aforementioned projects in Somaliland. The project will last for about five years as announced by the minister of planning, Hon. Awale Ibrahim Shirwa. Canada pledged 10 million US dollars for the successful implementation of the projects which will be of great handy and useful to residents in provinces who will take advantage of them. More than 1600 people in certain provinces will be the beneficiaries as far as Canada promised the projects in Somaliland. Hon. Marcus Davies, Canadian representative who made remarks at the event stressed that the projects will make a positive difference to the lives of many Somaliland citizens on the areas of food security and combating child malnutrition. Hon. Sergio Innocente, FOA spokesman and WFP representative Emmanuel both reiterated the importance of such projects for the community.
