Reports from Galguduud region on Thursday say that airstrikes were carried out against Al-shabab militants targeting a camp in Awsweyne settlement. The airstrikes were carefully planned and were executed by drones belonging to world friends that support the Somali Federal Gov’t. Initial reports say that the airstrikes targeted Al-Shabab convoy. Reports reveal that the drones hit three missiles to Al-shabab camp.
Reports further disclose that five combat vehicles were destroyed. Local residents say that they saw corpses were pulled out from the camp which indicates that heavy damage was inflicted on Al-Shabab militants. Eyewitnesses in the outskirts of Awsweyne settlement said that they could hear loud explosions once the airstrike was conducted.
Tension is running high and reports say that Al-shabab disconnected internet connectivity and telecommunication networks in a bid to prevent information to be received pertaining the exact number of casualties inflicted on the militant group of Al-Shabab.
The Somali Federal Gov’t has not so far issued a statement regarding the airstrike that was conducted in Awsweyne which could officially confirm the casualties inflicted on Al-Shabab.
Awsweyne settlement locates in a strategic area where operations and airstrikes were conducted in several occasions against the militant group of Al-Shabab. The Somali National Army (SNA) and friends in the world escalated the pressure on the militant group of Al—Shabab. Al-shabab militants retook Awsweyne settlement in 2023 after the militant group launched an attack on military base manned by Somali National Army (SNA).
