Reports from Adan Yabaal district in Lower Shabelle region confirmed on Thursday that suspected al-shabab fighters launched pre-dawn attack on military base in El Ali Ahmed which is housing Somali National Army (SNA), and local militia fighters known as Ma’awisley. Somali Security forces stationed in Adan Yabab provide security and protection to El Ali Ahmed. Local residents said that the attack began with explosions, and followed by heavy fighting between the two sides. Details of the casualties remain sketchy but the government troops repelled the attack. After the fighting, a tense situation is reported in El Ali Ahmed. Al-shabab’s goal was first to capture El Ali Ahmed and later takeover Adan Yabal which the Al-shabab militant group was in control for over 15 years before the government troops liberated from the extremist groups. SNA commanders told the local media that they repulsed the attack.
