The U.S. gov’t on Thursday handed over modern military equipment to the Somali Federal Gov’t. The equipment is intended to enhance the operational capabilities of Danab Commandos, the elite Special Operations Force in the Somali National Army (SNA) that conduct operations against the militant group of Al-shabab which are underway in the provinces in the country.
The defense minister of Somalia has expressed deep thanks and appreciations to the U.S. Gov’t, particularly the U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley who was representing the U.S. gov’t. The defense minister said that they are deeply indebted for the constant support that the U.S. provides to the Somali National Army (SNA).
The defense ministry said in a statement that the modern military equipment has been handed over to Danab Commandos. The statement said that it is crucial for the operations particularly the fight against the militant group of Al-shabab.
The defense ministry further revealed that the equipment will play a crucial role to enhance the profession and the accomplishments of Danab Commandos. At the same time the defense ministry pointed out that the equipment is part of the ongoing efforts which are aimed to ensure the operational capabilities of Danab Commandos. It is noteworthy that the new equipment will give an opportunity to Danab Commandos to prevent security challenges which exist in many parts of the country.
The press statement went on to say that the strong cooperation between Somalia and the U.S. is crucial pillar which is aimed to upgrade the capacity of the Somali National Army (SNA). The statement added that the strong cooperation between the two countries is crucial and will play a vital role to enhance the capability of the Somali National Army (SNA) as well as taking over the security responsibility of the country. The Somali Gov’t indicated its keenness and is committed to consolidate the friendly cooperation with the U.S. gov’t.
