Somali Defense Minister holds high level meeting with UK delegation

Somali Defense Minister, Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi on Thursday held a meeting with a high level UK delegation headed by Ambassador Harriet Mathews, the Director General, Africa, the Americas and Overseas Territories at the Common Wealth and Development office (FCDO).

During the meeting, the two sides discussed security issues and the support that the UK provides to Somalia.

He spoke with the UK delegation ways to strengthen and enhance the bilateral ties between the two countries in the areas of security, defense, the fight against extremist groups, and improving the quality of the Somali National Army (SNA).

He lauded the UK gov’t for the constant support it provides to the Somali National Army (SNA).

The two sides reviewed the existing cooperation which is aimed the fight against the militant group of Al-Shabab, the security responsibilities of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), the plans pertaining to the security transition and the ongoing joint efforts.

He expressed deep thanks and appreciations to the UK government for the constant support in the areas of security and rebuilding the gov’t institutions.

The UK gov’t provides support regarding the security issues, giving advice and equipping the Somali National Army (SNA).
