Two Members of Somaliland’s House of Representatives have scathingly attacked the current gov’t led by Abdirahman Irro, and on Sunday have jointly accused the gov’t of intimidating and repressing the residents hailing from Awdal province.
The two Members of Parliament named Mohamed Abiib and Maydhane made the allegations after Somaliland government arrested youngsters in connection of showing the Palestinian flag publicly.
They have said that the government was responsible for the detention of the youngsters who showed the Palestinian flag in public while most Somaliland resident were celebrating Israeli’s recognition of Somaliland by carrying Israeli flag in public.
The two Members of Somaliland House of Representatives reiterated that the country’s laws are against the apprehension of individuals who carry Palestinian flag. They stated that Borama, Awdal’s provincial capital is enjoying a period of peace and stability whilst the government is creating instability.
MP Maydhane called on the current government to immediately release those in police custody. He further noted that if the gov’t does not release those in police detention, it will be interpreted that the government is creating unrest in the city.
He added by saying that the country’s national constitution enshrines the freedom of speech. On the other hand, the two members of the parliament further indicated that clans inhabiting in Somaliland must have equal share when it comes to the power sharing. They have said either they will get their share of the government or Awdal province will leave Somaliland.
