On Monday, the US embassy in Somalia issued a statement regarding the political standoff between the Somali Federal Government and the Somali Future Council. The meeting between the two parties ended without any resolution. The embassy shared the statement on its Twitter account, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and compromise in resolving the situation. The embassy urged the leadership in Somalia to continue their efforts towards a united political process, which can effectively combat terrorist groups, strengthen the administration, and lead to development in Somalia and the international community. The US embassy also clarified that dialogue and compromise are crucial for stability and statehood in Somalia. Earlier on Monday, the leaders of the opposition bloc, known as the Somali Future Council, held separate meetings to make a decision after the collapse of talks at the Presidential Palace-Villa Somalia. According to reliable sources, the incumbent Somali President, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, sent an intermediary to the members of the Somali Future Council in an attempt to continue the dialogue and avoid breaking the news to the media about the current point of contention. The intermediary, led by the education minister, Mr. Farah Sheikh Abdilkadir, held separate meetings with the opposition groups. The US embassy’s press release is a response to increased pressure, both internal and external. The international community is extremely concerned that the current political standoff will delay the election process and the amendment of the constitution.
