Earlier on Monday, the leaders of the opposition bloc, known as the Somali Future Council, held separate meetings to make a decision after the collapse of talks at the Presidential Palace-Villa Somalia. According to reliable sources, the incumbent Somali President, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, sent an intermediary to the members of the Somali Future Council in an attempt to continue the dialogue and avoid breaking the news to the media about the current point of contention. The intermediary, led by the education minister, Mr. Farah Sheikh Abdilkadir, held separate meetings with the opposition groups. The US embassy’s press release is a response to increased pressure, both internal and external.
