The Somali Future Council announced on Saturday, after lengthy consultations, that they have decided to accept the invitation to attend the upcoming consultative meeting extended by the Somali Federal Government. In a press release, the council stated that this decision was made in order to prevent a power vacuum and to find an inclusive resolution to save the statehood and unity of the Somali Federal Government. The council emphasized that Somalia is currently facing a critical situation that poses a threat to the state and unity of its people, and that political disagreements regarding the constitution will only weaken this unity. The council also warned that this situation could give advantage to terrorist organizations such as Al-Shabab and ISIS, as well as individuals with vested interests who seek to undermine the security and existence of the state. The council reiterated that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will take necessary steps to ensure that the upcoming consultative meeting is held in an atmosphere of confidence and that the talks will be fruitful. These steps include halting the amendment of the constitution, which was approved in 2012, and making the agendas of the meeting a top priority in light of the current situation in the country. These agendas include addressing the security situation, particularly the fight against Al-Shabab and ISIS, reaching a unanimous agreement on a model for the upcoming government, strengthening the unity of the country, and addressing the drought situation. The council also announced that a technical committee, led by lawmaker Abdullahi Abukar Haji (known as Abdilahi Arab), has been tasked with organizing the attendance of the meeting.
