Kenya’s security agencies have successfully foiled a network responsible for logistics and transportation for the militant group Al-Shabab. This was achieved after a large number of military uniforms were confiscated in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. The operation, which took place in the Eastleigh neighborhood, was led by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU). The agencies received intelligence reports indicating that the shipment was part of a larger regional logistics network. According to a statement released by Kenya’s DCI, the confiscated items included sweaters and other military equipment that were found in storage facilities. The shipment had arrived from Mombasa and was later transferred to various locations in Nairobi. It is believed that the shipment originated from China and was allowed entry into Kenya by being mixed with other goods. The transportation and distribution of the shipment was carried out by intermediaries. Several individuals, including those responsible for loading the shipment, have been taken into police custody and are currently being interrogated. The security agencies are determined to dismantle the broad network responsible for logistics and transportation for Al-Shabab. This operation is part of the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region, specifically targeting networks that support Al-Shabab in Kenya and the Horn of Africa. The security forces are also conducting investigations to uncover any cross-border networks.
