Southwest State Security Forces Repulsed Al-Shabab attack on a military base in Waajid district

Al-Shabab militant group on Friday launched an attack on a military base housing Southwest State troops stationed in Waajid district in Bakool region. According to reports, the two sides engaged in a brief fighting and the two sides used all kinds of heavy weapons. The gallant Somali troops successfully repulsed Al-Shabab attack on the base as far as reports are concerned. Military officers who spoke to the local media said that after Somali troops overpowered Al-shabaab, they fled from the area.

Somali troops confiscated weapons and captured Al-shabab prisoners. The Security Forces in Wajid district confirmed that they have captured Al-shabab operative who is responsible for recording videos for the militant group. He is currently under police custody in Wajid district. Police are investigating and interrogating him. The Security Forces have confiscated all his equipment. The troops also foiled Al-Shabab plot in which they placed IED’s in the vicinity of Waajid airport. The militant group also placed another landmine in an area between the town and the airport.
