The Government of the Republic of Somaliland has publicly expressed its support for the United States following the recent military operation that resulted in the capture and arrest of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Somaliland described the US action as a step toward restoring constitutional order, democratic governance, and the rule of law in Venezuela.
The statement read in part: “The Government of the Republic of Somaliland affirms its principled alignment with the United States in support of calibrated international action aimed at restoring constitutional order, democratic legitimacy, and the rule of law in Venezuela.”
It further emphasized that “in line with international norms and collective security considerations, Somaliland believes that responsible U.S.-led engagement, carried out in coordination with regional and multilateral partners, can help alleviate humanitarian suffering, counter transnational criminal networks, and support a peaceful, Venezuelan-led transition based on sovereignty, accountability, and respect for human rights.”
The Republic of Somaliland, located in the Horn of Africa, rarely comments on geopolitical events outside its region, making this statement a notable demonstration of its alignment with US foreign policy initiatives.
