The Vice President of Somaliland flanked by Dubia Ports World Officials laid the foundation stone of expanding Berbera Port as agreed by Somaliland authority and DPW. A ceremony was held at Berbera port on Wednesday saw the attendance of Hon. Abdirahman Abdilahi Ismail, deputy president of Somaliland, and deputy chairman of DPW, Hon. adnan Al-Abar. The DP has announced that the 240 km road linking Berbera to Wajale will be built by the UAE and will commence by early next year. Hon. Sayli’i asserted that this will facilitate the trade between Somaliland & Ethiopia.
As expectations forecast that the road construction will take up to five years from day one. The public voiced on DPW modernization of Berbera port in the first place but now they are changing their mind and are about to realize the completion of all projects undertaken by DPW. The Somali Federal Parliament on March 12th this year passed a motion banning DPW on the projects it is carrying out in Somaliland and the Somali lawmakers said that the deal between the two sides was unbinding and unconstitutional.
Somaliland protested against Somalia parliament nullifying the agreement but it reiterated that it is an independent de facto. DPW and Djibouti lock horns over the expulsion of DPW’s stake at Port of Djibouti.
