The Incumbent Somaliland President H.E Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi alias Irro on Tuesday attended two combined ceremonies that were held in Hargeisa, Somaliland capital.
The President attended a ceremony marking 15th April as National Planting Trees Day.
He also attended another ceremony where the current government dubbed “togetherness and Action” has planned to plant 3 million trees nationwide during the tenure of the President Irro.
The two ceremonies were organized by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
The objective behind National Planting Trees Day was to prevent the negative impact that climate change has on the life and in particular the life of Somaliland community.
The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro who spoke at the National Planting Trees Day, has said that the rise of temperatures, recurrent scarcity of water and overgrazing, recurrent droughts, and displacement of nomads and farmers are all blamed for the climate change and deforestation in Somaliland.
Irro said that lack of trees means lack of life.
He further stated that our life and that of our animals are dependent on trees.
The project to plant 3 million trees across Somaliland during the tenure of the current administration dubbed “Togetherness and Action” is aimed to bring back to life the soil that is appropriate for planting trees.
The project is also aimed to prevent soil erosion that was happening in Somaliland for the past couple of years.
This project is part of the promises that the incumbent President pledged to implement during the campaign in the last presidential elections.
