In a significant diplomatic and business breakthrough, senior officials, diplomats, and entrepreneurs from Somaliland and Israel convened for high-level talks in Ethiopia’s capital, signaling a bold new chapter in bilateral cooperation.

The closed-door meeting, held in Addis Ababa, centered on unlocking fresh opportunities for trade and investment. Discussions explored deep collaboration across key sectors including agriculture, energy, technology, healthcare, and critical infrastructure development.

Somaliland’s Minister of Trade and Tourism, Abdirahman Hassan Nur, delivered a strong message of openness, declaring that Somaliland is fully prepared to warmly welcome international investors and global business partners.

The gathering was strategically organized by Somaliland’s Ambassador to Israel, Dr. Mohamed Hagi. It brought together a powerful delegation from Somaliland, including the Governor of the Central Bank, leaders from the National Insurance Agency, and the Somaliland Chamber of Commerce.

On the Israeli side, diplomats including the Deputy Ambassador to Ethiopia attended in person, while Israel’s Ambassador to Somaliland Lotem Michael joined virtually.

This rare engagement underscores growing mutual interest between the two nations and could pave the way for substantial investments that boost economic growth in Somaliland while opening new markets for Israeli expertise and technology in the Horn of Africa.
