The House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Planning, and Investment today convened a high-level consultative meeting to review and strengthen proposed amendments to the Draft Diplomatic Missions Act.

The session was officially inaugurated by Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Saeed Mire Farah (Giire), who underscored the importance of establishing a modern, internationally compliant diplomatic framework for Somaliland.

The meeting brought together a distinguished group of participants, including veteran diplomats with extensive experience in Somaliland’s foreign relations, prominent legal experts, and academic scholars specializing in international law and diplomacy. Discussions centred on refining the language of the draft legislation, particularly provisions related to the mandates, privileges, immunities, and operational protocols of Somaliland’s diplomatic missions abroad.

Participants provided detailed technical inputs and recommendations aimed at ensuring full alignment with established international diplomatic norms and conventions, while reflecting Somaliland’s unique context and aspirations.

All recommendations and feedback collected during the consultative forum will now be carefully integrated into the revised draft. The updated version is expected to advance to the next legislative stage in the House of Representatives for further debate and approval.

This consultative process marks a significant step toward formalising and professionalizing Somaliland’s diplomatic architecture in line with global best practices.
