Somalia Receives shipment of military equipment from the African Union

Somali Federal Gov’t on Thursday received shipment of military equipment from the African Union.

The Somali gov’t said that the shipment is aimed at bolstering security infrastructure and contributing to regional stability.

The shipment incudes armored vehicles, helmets and vests, an armored personnel carrier, fuel and water tankers, engines and other essential resources.

Somali ambassador to Ethiopia, Mr. Abdilahi Mohamed Warfaa, has received the armored vehicles and other military equipment from officials of the African Union’s Continental Logistics Base in Douala, Cameron.

A statement from Somalia extended heartfelt appreciations and thanks to the African Union for its continued and invaluable support , which strengthens regional security , supports institutional development and advances counter-terrorism efforts , reaffirming the shared dedication to fostering long-term stability, resilience and progress across the continent.

On Dec. 27, 2024, The UN Security Council approved a resolution authorizing the deployment of new African Union Mission in Somalia to replace an earlier AU Force starting early 2025, with the goal of combating Al-Shabab militants.

The new mission is called the African Union Stabilization Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), and it will operate for an initial period of one year.
