The Somali Ministry of defense on Monday revealed that the Somali troops defeated the militant group of Al-Shabab in an operation.
The Ministry said that Al-Shabab militants were planning to attack bases housing Somali National Army in Sabiib and Caanoole areas in Lower Shabelle region.
The ministry further stated that the Somali troops have inflicted heavy casualties on Al-Shabab fighters.
The ministry pointed out that the Somali troops were on high alert when Al-Shabab fighters attacked the bases.
The spokesman of the defense ministry, Sheikh Abuuklar Mohamed told the state-run media that the Somali troops killed 30 Al-Shabab fighters in the clashes that ensued between the Somali troops and Al-Shabab militants which occurred in Sabiib and Caanoole areas.
He stated that operations and airstrikes targeting Al-Shabab fighters took place in Middle Shabelle province.
He disclosed that 40 Al-shabab fighters were also killed in the operations and airstrikes.
He further added that the operations against the militant group of Al-Shabab are underway.
The Somali gov’t intensified operations against the militant group of Al-Shabab which are aimed at liberating districts under their control in Shabelle provinces.
