The Somali National Army (SNA) backed by local defense forces known as Ma’awisley are launching offensives in which they want to retake Aboorey settlement which lies in the East of Hiiraan region.

Al-Shabab captured the settlement on April 6, which lies in 30 km North of Buuloburde town after the militant group crossed from Jicibow settlement which Shabelle River runs through.

The Somali National Army (SNA) and Ma’awisley forces on Thursday moved to liberate the settlement although fierce fighting ensued between the Somali troops and Al-shabab fighters in the outskirts of Aboorey settlement. It was not possible for the Somali troops to move into the settlement.

Somali Military Officers and Ma’awisley leadership from Hiiraan province said that Al-Shabab planted landmines in the roads that go to Aboorey settlement which delayed the allied forces to reach the settlement.

Reports indicate that the allied forces are conducting operations in the outskirts of Aboorey settlement.

Hiiraan regional governor, Muse Salad Weheliye disclosed that the allied forces will dislodge the militant group of Al-shabab from the settlement.
