The Somali National Army (SNA) backed by local defense forces on Wednesday dislodged Al-Shabab militants from Masaajid Ali Guduud and Geelgub settlements in Middle Shabelle province.
The Spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of the Somali Federal Gov’t, Abukar Ma’alin has confirmed to the state media that the Somali troops took control of the settlements which were under the control of Al-shabab for the past months.
He said: “The allied troops conducted the operation dubbed “Silent Storm” in Masaajid Ali Guduud and Geelgub settlements, and flushed out Al-Shabab remnants who were hiding in the settlements. There are a lot of casualties including deaths and injuries. We will keep you abreast of the casualties later on.”
He also told that the allied troops are currently preoccupied with removing of landmines from the areas. He said that the troops are still pursuing Al-Shabab remnants who fled from the settlements. The Somali Federal Gov’r intends once again to drive Al-shabab from many settlements in Middle Shabelle province including Adan Yabaal district.
