Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited the wounded soldiers of the local defense forces hailing from Hiiraan region who were taken to Mogadishu in order to receive further medical treatments at Martini hospital. Helicopters ferried the injured soldiers to Mogadishu for the past 48 hours.
The soldiers were wounded in the fighting that took place on Saturday and Sunday where the Somali National Army (SNA) backed by the local defense forces clashed with Al-Shabab fighters in the border areas between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle provinces.
The President inspected the health conditions of the wounded soldiers who are receiving medical attention. He said that the gov’t is giving a top priority to treat the wounded soldiers. He also revealed that his gov’t is committed to provide the support they need.
He said: “You are the defenders of the country, the people, the religion and the state. You will enter the history. The Somali gov’t stands by you.”
The President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud inspected the various departments of the hospital which lies in Hamar weyne district.
The hospital management briefed the president on the services it provides to the public as well as the challenges and the development plans in the future.
The President was accompanied by the Deputy Speaker of the Upper House of Parliament, Ali Sha’aban Ibrahim and the Deputy President of Hirshabelle, Yusuf Ahmed Hagar.
