Somali President Says Al-Shabab militants do not want the Somali populace to live

The Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud yesterday accused the militant group of Al-shabab of conducting explosion attacks on areas that are filled with people. He said that the Al-Shabab’s only objective is to kill as many people as they want without having a sense of compassion for the innocent people.

He said: ”Explosion has become part of their behavior in which they chose where people are overcrowded. Are there many people there? Take me to blow up myself.”

The President made the remarks in a cutting ribbon ceremony of a new building for the religious and endowment ministry. The Head of State was referring the attack which targeted youngsters who were willing to enlist the Somali National Army (SNA) in which the suicide bomber blew himself up at the gate of Damanyo military barrack in Mogadishu on Sunday.

Al-Shabab which claimed the responsibility of carrying out the attack claimed the lives of twelve youngsters while 20 others were wounded. The Somali President disclosed that the Somali troops dealt with the explosions the militant group conduct in the capital Mogadishu, and are still ready to prevent attacks Al-shabab target with the Somali populace.

He said: “Tonight we will give a lot of blood to prevent Al-Shabab’s atrocities against the Somali populace. The real martyrs are those that are preventing them to carry out explosions.”

On the other hand, he revealed that there are members who already abandoned Al-Shabab’s ideology are members of the Somali National Army officers while others are in the business sector. He pointed out that the Somali gov’t will welcome with open arms those who relinquish Al-Shabab’s ideology.

He said: “Those who desert Al-Shabab, we will keep them on our chests, we will welcome them. He will be part of the Somali people and he will be a citizen. His citizenship will be assured. He will have the same rights as a Somali citizen.”
