On Friday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud received a high-level UK delegation led by Minister of State for Development Jenny Chapman. A statement issued by Villa Somalia stated that President Mohamud briefed the UK delegation on Somalia’s achievements in state-building, security, and the democratization process. The statement also mentioned that President Mohamud emphasized the strong ties between Somalia and the UK, particularly in the areas of security, development, and investment. He expressed gratitude for the UK’s ongoing support, specifically in efforts to strengthen peace, fight terrorism, and implement the National Development Plan, which is a top priority for the Somali people. Minister Chapman reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen cooperation between Mogadishu and London, emphasizing the importance of stability in Somalia for the Horn of Africa and the entire African continent. This crucial meeting takes place as the international community, including the UK, EU, and US, puts pressure on the Somali government, led by President Mohamud, to reach a final resolution on the election standoff and hold inclusive and agreed-upon elections in the country.
