Somali President Attends Tanzania Summit On Congo Conflict

Dar es Salaam– Somali President H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended a meeting in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania which is aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict in Eastern Congo.

The summit brought together the Heads of State from East African Community (EAC), and Southern African Development Community (SADC).

The Somali president addressed the meeting by emphasizing the importance of the summit for bringing stability to the region.

The president reiterated that Somalia as part of the UN Security Council is committed to seek a lasting solution to the crisis in Eastern Congo.

The Somali leader talked about the ongoing conflict in Eastern Congo whereby he stated clearly that the matter be resolved in a peaceful manner.

He warned the ongoing bloodshed and called on the warring sides to give the dialogue a chance.

He said that the conflict in Eastern Congo is a humanitarian crisis, there must be an urgent action to reinforce the peace and stability in the region. He added that the diplomatic efforts undertaken by EAC and SADC will bring a solution to the crisis there.

The president said that the SADC-EAC summit is seen as a critical step in coordinating regional efforts to stabilize the volatile region.
