The Somali National Army (SNA) carried out on Saturday an operation which was intended to bolster security within the road that links Baidoa and Wajid townships in Bay and Bakool regions. Units of the Somali National Army particularly the 8th Brigade of the 60th Division on Friday left from Goofgudud Buurey Military Base and conducted an operation to beef up the security.
Reports say that the 45th, 46th and 47th battalion of the 8th Brigade launched the operation to drive out Al-Shabab remnants from Xinshilole and Waney settlements which locate in the dense forests that lie on the road.
Goofguduud Buuray military barrack lies 30 km North of Baidoa and is among the settlements that lie in between Baidoa and Wajid.
The long road was not accessible to traffic as reported by the Commander of the 60th Division, General Hassan Isak Omar alias Hassan Baidoa.
It is reported that Al-Shabab militants prevented from the public to use the road and cut off the traffic from the townships.
The Somali National Army (SNA) stopped the use of the road due to frequent ambushes and landmines planted on the road by the deadly militant group of Al-Shabab.
Colonel Mohamed Yarisow Adan, the Commander of the 60th Division of the Somali National Army (SNA) who paid an inspection visit to the soldiers stationed in the frontlines in the outskirts of Baidoa told that that offensives against Al-shabab militants will be launched.
The Presence of Al-Shabab poses a serious security threat to the military barrack of Goofguduud Buuray as the deadly militants launch attacks on the base.
The Somali National Army (SNA) will be working in tandem with 9th Brigade particularly the 60th Division that is operational in Bakool and launched an operation for the past couple of weeks in the settlements in Hudur and Wajid townships.
