The Somali Military Command is expediting operations in which the Somali National Army (SNA) backed by Ma’awisley forces will liberate Adan Yabaal district in Middle Shabelle province.
The Somali National Army (SNA) and the local defense forces known as Ma’awisley are currently fighting the militant group of Al-Shabab in the outskirts of Adan Yabaal district.
The allied troops commenced on May 18, to put pressure on the district one day after Al-shabab militants failed in their attacks in which they wanted to take over the defense positions of the Somali National Army (SNA) and Ma’awisley forces in El-Hareeri settlement which is under Moqokori district in Hiiran region.
The Commander of the Ground Forces of the Somali National Army (SNA) General Sahal Abdullahi Omar reached Moqokori district yesterday afternoon in order to push the expedition of operations which are aimed to flush out Al-Shabab from settlements that lie in the border areas between the two regions namely Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle.
Hiiraan regional governor, Muse Salad Weheliye, the Commander of the 5th Battalion and the 27th Division of the Somali National Army (SNA), Colonel Mohamud Hassan Ibrahim Baakaay and Ma’awisley leadership greeted the Commander of the Ground Forces upon reaching Moqokori district.
The Commander of the Ground Forces has been in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, and a helicopter ferried him to Moqokori which lies in the border between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle provinces.
Reports say that a helicopter transported weapons and ammunitions to the frontlines.
Reports further indicate that the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Somali National Army (SNA) General Sahal Abdullahi Omar will reinforce the ongoing plan which is underway and is aimed to drive out Al-shabab from Adan Yabaal district in order to tighten the security of the road which links Adan Yabaal and Moqokori districts.
Al-Shabab fighters based in Adan Yabaal district employed tactics and launched attacks on settlements that are close to the border areas in order to show that the fighting is underway in areas that are far away from Adan Yabaal district.
The Minister of Defense of the Somali Federal Gov’t, Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi who held a press conference in Mogadishu on last Wednesday said that the operations which are aimed to eradicate Al-Shabab from the country entered a new stage.
Defense Minister, Fiqi and Somali Military Command understand that they focus on Hirshabelle in which the militant group of Al-Shabab put a lot of pressure on the region.
Hirshabelle has become the frontline for the past couple of months after Al-Shabab militants launched attacks on the East of Hirshabelle on May 20, particularly the Middle Shabelle province.
