Police arrest the suspect who murdered the former Somali footballer

Banadir regional police yesterday arrested the security guard who was accused of murdering Abdifatah Abdi Osman known as Abdifatah Arab who was well-known in Mogadishu particularly in the sports.

The man named Shariif Ahmed Mohamed killed Abdifatah on the opposite of Safari apartment building while the deceased was on his way to Astaan Company as he was a member of the staff.

Eyewitnesses told that the security guard shot dead the man while he was riding a motorbike. Reports say that the security guard was among soldiers who were guarding the area. The family of the deceased was furious over the way their son was murdered.

They also refused to bury him until the suspect has to be brought before the court of law. The corpse was taken to Erdogan Hospital, but he was later transferred to Madina hospital in order to be kept in the mortuary.

The family insists that he will not be buried until they will get justice. The security forces apprehended the suspect within hours and is under custody at a police station in Hodan district.

Banadir regional police chief, Colonel Mahdi Omar Mumin promised to bring the perpetrator to justice. Abdifatah Arab was a soccer player who played for the Somali National Soccer Team. He also played for soccer teams in Mogadishu particularly Elman, Banadir Telecom, and Sahafi. He left behind a son and a wife.
