Somali Military Command releases the names of Al-Shabab leaders killed in an airstrike

The Somali Military Command on Friday released the names of senior leaders and elders belonging to Al-Shabab militants  who were killed in Central Somalia.

The Somali National Army (SNA) in conjunction with the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), carried out airstrikes which was conducted by the Somali Air Force.

The airstrikes targeted senior leaders and elders who were in Dib-Dheer area in El-Buur district in Galguduud region.

The Somali Military Command said in a statement that the operation targeted senior leaders of the al-Qaeda affiliated group of Al-Shabab.

The names of al-Shabab leaders killed in the operation are:-

  1. Ahmed Ma’alin, who is head of El-Buur district for Al-Shabab militants.
  2. Abuu Salman, who is head of El-Garas for the militant group of Al-Shabab.
  3. Hussein Ali Badal, who is head of Xiindheere area for Al-Shabab militants.
  4. Budul Farah Geedi, who is the head of Ceel- Qooxle for Al-Shabab militants.

The operation also targeted elders who working in cahoots with Al-Shabab and were misguiding the local residents.

The names of Al-Shabab elders are:-

  1. Mire Cagdheer, is a senior al-Shabab leader
  2. Muse Omar- Senior Al-Shabab leader.
  3. Mohamed U Rur, who is also a senior Al-Shabab leader
  4. Xaji Bashir, who is also a senior Al-Shabab leader

The Somali Military Command confirmed that the airstrike was a direct response following the attack that Al-Shabab militants launched against Ma’awisley Forces stationed in Bay-Caadle viillage. The attack occurred on 13 March, 2025.

Al-Shabab elders were in a position to put pressure on Somali populace to join Al-Shabab militant group.
