The defense minister of the Somali Federal Gov’t, Ahmed Ma’alin Fiqi on Sunday has revealed that large mobilization is underway which is aimed that the Somali Federal Gov’t to recapture areas that are under the control of Al-Shabab.
He pointed out that the plan will be jointly cooperated between the Somali National Army (SNA) and the local defense forces known as Ma’awisley.
He further disclosed that this operation will be the one in which the militant group of Al-shabab will be eliminated.
He said: “We are implementing a plan in which the defense ministry wants to recapture areas that are under Al-Shabab’s control. The operations are currently underway in most provinces in the country like Hirshabelle, Jubaland and Southwest. We will step up the operations which are aimed to eradicate the terrorist group of Al-Shabab.”
He dismissed reports saying that the Somali Federal Gov’t did not provide support to the local defense forces known as Ma’awisley in the fight against Al-shabab in Hiiraan region.
He said: “We did not let Hiiraan residents to fight Al-Shabab alone. The Somali National Army (SNA) are with them. We treat the wounded. The Somali Federal Gov’t provides ammunitions and weapons. The achievements of the local defense forces are visible and I congratulate on them.”
