The Commander of the 14th October Battalion, Brigadier General Nuur Moahmed Gabow alias Nur Farey on Saturday has been confirmed that he was assassinated in the outskirts of Afgoye town in Lower Shabelle province.
Sources said that the Commander was assassinated while he was in an area nearby Afgoye.
It is reported that he was delivering a speech to soldiers once one of the soldiers opened fire to the Commander and he died on the spot.
Reports further said that the soldier who assassinated the Commander was also shot him dead on the spot.
The motive for the killing of the Commander is still unknown.
Investigations conducted by Somalia’s Security Forces are currently underway.
The Somali Military Command has not spoken nor has it issued a statement regarding the assassination of the Commander.
It is expected that the Military Command will speak about the assassination of Commander Nuur Farey.
He is said to be a young and active Commander who attended military trainings in Italy.
He is believed to be a Commander that has liberated many districts in Lower Shabelle province from the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab.
He was stationed in Awdheegle, Afgoye, Sabiid and Caanoole where militants of Al-shabab launched attacks against bases housing Somali National Army (SNA).
