Reports from Warshiikh district in Middle Shabelle province say that the religious scholars were attacked. The attack took place in Haloole settlement.
At least four people were confirmed dead while four others sustained serious injuries including a child. The religious scholars were in the settlement for Quran recitation. Local residents say that armed clan assailants targeted the religious scholars. The clan assailants have escaped from the area after conducting the raid.
Warshiikh district authority immediately left for Haloole settlement where the raid took place. Investigations are underway which will lead the perpetrators to be brought before the justice.
Security forces from Warshiikh district are currently in Haloole settlement in order to maintain the security. The attack caused panic among the residents in Haloole settlement who were saddened by the incident and termed it a barbaric act in which innocent people were targeted. The residents have expressed anxiety over the alarming increase of attacks.
The local residents and the elders from the settlement called on the Somali gov’t and the regional authority to take strict actions against those who are instigating clan conflict in order to minimize the recurring hostilities that transpire in Middle Shabelle province
