Puntland President blames the economic downturn for the presence of ISIS group in Al-Miskaad Mountain range

The Somali semi-autonomous region of Puntland President, Saed Abdilahi Deni has revealed on Monday that there is an economic downturn in which he blamed for the presence of ISIS group in Al-Miskaad Mountain range in Bari region. He disclosed that a broad based survey will be displayed pertaining to the matter.

President Deni who spoke in a meeting held in Garowe in which it was debated on the Banks development said that Puntland authority has documents and evidences that ISIS group extorted millions of dollars from Puntland populace. He revealed that the money extorted from Puntland was wired to foreign countries in which they finance ISIS operations that the group carries out in Africa and Asia.

He said: “The economic downturn in Puntland is mainly responsible for the presence of ISIS fighters in Al-Miskaad Mountain range. Once we went to Al-Miskaad Mountain, we got the evidences demonstrating millions of dollars were wired through the phones of local telecommunication companies in Puntland. The money is directly wired from Puntland and was sent to ISIS members that are based in Mozambique and Nigeria.”

He further added that Puntland paid millions of dollars in regard to the ongoing operations against ISIS fighters in Al-Miskaad Mountain range in Bari region. He stated that the support that Puntland receives from the int’l partners is through ground and air support. Puntland defense forces on Monday captured ISIS fighter who is an Ethiopian by nationality.

This was confirmed by Puntland Military Command which issued a press release. The Military Command revealed that Puntland Defense Forces captured the ISIS fighter who was hiding in Togga Baallade and is named Hakimi. In addition, Puntland defense forces confirmed two days ago that they captured Turkish national, Hassan Atar and was captured while he was stationed in Togga Baallade in Al-Miskaad Mountain Range in Bari region.
