Reports from Buurhakaba district in the Bay region indicate a political tension between the Southwest State administration and the Buurhakaba district authority. This tension has specifically affected the operation of the recently constructed airport, a joint project undertaken by local residents who funded its construction. The mayor of Buurhakaba district, Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Ibrahim, also known as Laysaamow, stated that the Southwest State President, Mr. Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed, known as Laftagareen, has increased pressure on the district. As a result, humanitarian relief flights that used to arrive in Buurhakaba on Sundays and Wednesdays have been suspended by the regional Southwest State, citing security concerns raised by senior leaders in the region. The mayor emphasized that the airport was built with the contributions of local residents and accused the Southwest State authority of hindering its operations instead of supporting it. However, sources suggest that the pressure on the airport may be related to the training of soldiers with a political objective. The Buurhakaba authority argues that the security forces receiving training at the airport are part of the security agencies and their training is similar to other trainings taking place in districts within the Southwest State. In contrast, President Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed, known as Laftagareen, recently visited the Dervish forces who are preparing to strengthen regional security. The purpose of his visit was to encourage the soldiers and express his commitment to supporting and promoting their quality in order to effectively discharge their duties, defend the country, protect the statehood, and eliminate terrorist groups. A statement from the presidential palace in Baidoa stated that these soldiers will be absorbed into the Dervish forces to participate in maintaining security. This visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security, rebuild government institutions, and ensure the safety of people living in Southwest State districts.
