The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in collaboration with international allies, carried out a planned operation in the Tardo area of the Hiiraan region, targeting bases and equipment used by Al-Shabab militants to carry out attacks, according to the Somali government. In a statement released by NISA, it was reported that five Al-Shabab fighters were successfully eliminated in the operation. The operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated that 25 Al-Shabab members, including leaders and fighters, were organized in Tardo. According to NISA’s statement, this group was planning to carry out attacks in order to disrupt the security and stability in the Hiiraan province. NISA forces, along with international allies, precisely targeted the bases where the group was hiding. Centers and equipment used by the group to facilitate the movement and management of Al-Shabab fighters were destroyed. The Somali Federal Government has intensified its operations against Al-Shabab in recent times, with Somali troops supported by local defense forces engaging in skirmishes in parts of Central and South Somalia.
