Soldiers of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) that are operational in Southwest state commenced operations which are aimed to bolster security which are underway in Hudur town in Bakool province. The operations focused on stopping and searching people and vehicles that are entering the town after the militant group of Al-Shabab lifted the blockade on Baay and Bakool regions.
The main objective behind the operations are to heighten the security in Hudur town where there is a fear that Al-shabab militants may carry out acts of insecurity within the town. The security forces are stopping and searching trucks and passenger vehicles in order to prevent acts of insecurity.
Commanders leading the operation said that the measure is meant to be cautious which is aimed to protect the security of the local residents, and at the same time prevent acts that would jeopardize the stability of the town. Security remains tight in checkpoints in order to ensure everyone who is entering the town.
The security forces urged the community in Hudur town to cooperate with police force and to remain vigilant. The security agencies in Bakool region urge the local residents to directly make a contact with security forces if they see something suspicious or encounter any danger.
The operations came at a time when the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group of Al-Shabab lifted the blockade it imposed on Baay and Bakool regions. The step paved the way for trucks carrying food to travel to Bay and Bakool regions. The security forces want to prevent the militant group of Al-Shabab to have the opportunity to move into the town which will pose a risk to the community living in Hudur town.
The operation to stop and search the vehicles will be stepped up once the risk of insecurity exists. Finally, NISA Commanders in the region underlined the importance of strengthening the cooperation between the community and the security forces. This is the only way to ensure the overall security and lasting stability in Hudur town and in Baay and Bakool regions in general.
