Kenyan forces prevent Al-Shabaab attack on a base in Mandera

Kenyan security forces thwarted a night raid in, which suspected Al-Shabab fighters launched an attack on a military base in Kenya, which is situated in Lafey district in Mandera region. According to security officers, the armed militant group estimated to be 10 suspected Al-Shabab members carried out the attack on the military base on Wednesday evening, while opening fire from an area 600 meters away from the base. Kenyan security forces in the base immediately responded to the raid, and clashes ensued which lasted for several minutes before the suspected Al-shabab fighters retreated from the area. Reports say that no soldiers were injured in the attack, and there was no damage to the targeted base. Kenyan officials said that they heightened security near the border areas, and conducted operations in pursuing the fighters who conducted the attack. Mandera province is located in the border between Kenya and Somalia, and has been coping with attacks and insecurity responsible by Al-Shabab fighters for a long time.
