The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has expressed deep concern regarding the impact of fighting in the city of Baidoa on the civilian population, following heavy clashes in densely populated areas.
The ICRC reported that 106 wounded individuals were treated at two government hospitals, while another 42 were treated at private facilities, bringing the total number of wounded people noted by the organization to 148.
The organization stated that the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) evacuated the wounded, and the ICRC noted that it is working closely with the SRCS to support those affected by the conflict.
Antoine Grand, the Head of the ICRC Delegation for Somalia, called on all parties involved in the fighting to take measures to protect civilians and to avoid actions that could harm the civilian population.
Baidoa has faced a volatile security situation in recent days, with fighting within the city affecting civilians and healthcare services.
