Freedom Airline has denied reports claiming that a flight scheduled for yesterday on the Garowe-Mogadishu-Nairobi route was cancelled due to a requirement for passengers to possess a NIRA identification card.
Mukhtar Hamud, Freedom Airlineโs manager for Somalia, speaking to HOL, stated that the airline did not have any flights operating on the Garowe-Mogadishu-Nairobi route yesterday.
He explained that, consequently, no flight was cancelled from Garowe or Mogadishu, thereby dismissing the reports that attributed the alleged cancellation to the NIRA identification card requirement.
Freedom Airline also urged that information regarding its flights be verified with the company before publication, to avoid disseminating inaccurate details that could damage the airline’s reputation. Upon re-examining the source of the report published yesterday, HOL has learned that Freedom Airline did not operate any flights on the Garowe-Mogadishu-Nairobi route yesterday; HOL apologizes to Freedom Airline for the report published in yesterday’s edition (October 1, 2026).
In communication and a written statement shared with us, the company informed us that, prior to September 20th, they had suspended the flight schedules that previously connected Mogadishu and Garowe on Mondays and Thursdays.
